Building Faith, Day 25 -The Good Guide

January 8, 2016

Psalm 25: 8 “Good and upright is the Lord; he will show sinners the good and proper path.”

An article in the WSJ by Stephen Prothero, a Boston U. professor of religion is headlined “Are Allah and Jesus the same God?” He concludes that although Islam and Christianity share a belief in one God, “they are not two paths up the same mountain.” Christians do not believe in the divine inspiration of the Quran, and Muslims do not believe that Jesus is an incarnation of God. Can we respect differences?

Christians follow the teachings of Jesus, mainly to love God and each other. That seems so simple, but requires the guidance of the Bible to  find and adopt God’s truth.  Jesus taught with kindness and with love, with no fear of punishment.

I have taken trips with guides and without guides. Without guides (tour directors) I am apt to become lost and bewildered. With guides the path is smoothed, and my destination is assured.

The 25th psalm ends with this paraphrased plea, “O God, ransom my country fr0m all its trouble. O God be my guide.”

My guide is good. His mercy is everlasting, and his truth endures forever.
