Building Faith, 13 – Weighing In

November 19, 2015

Psalm 13 reminds me to trust in the Lord’s unfailing love, to rejoice because he has rescued me, and to sing to the Lord because he is good, yesterday, today, and all days. How do we measure love?

I feel blessed that I have known human love: husband, child, sister, grandchildren, mother, grandmother, and many friends. I cannot describe how they have enriched my life. How empty is life without love? I am an empty container without love. If I am incapable of loving others, it is because I do not know them.

God loves us all, of that I am certain. He knows us well, with our sins as well as our kind acts. True love means I will be forgiven whatever I say or do. Love obligates me to forgive my loved ones. It is the one great certainty that I have, and can share. Love by the ounce, the pound, the inch, the foot, the pint or quart. There is no measure capable of weighing love.

And Jesus said, “Love one another.”
