Building Faith 5, Lo! How Low Is the Fallen World?

October 28, 2015

Psalm 5 paints a vivid picture of a fallen world. David says, “My enemies cannot speak a truthful word. Their deepest desire is to destroy others. Their talk is foul, like the stench of an open grave, but their tongues are filled with flattery. O God, declare them guilty, and let them be caught in their own traps. Drive them away because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against You.”

Dear Lord, how can I understand riots in the streets against the police, the looting, and shooting in American neighborhoods. Fifty years ago, I loved the industrious women of Baltimore who rose early to scrub their front steps until the concrete looked like porcelain, but I would be afraid to walk in those same streets now. In class I have seen school children smile ruefully when their teacher held out the wastebasket for them to deposit the forbidden chewing gum, but last night on TV I watched a young girl ignore her teacher, slap an officer, and dragged from a class tangled in a fallen chair because she wouldn’t give her teacher her cell phone for an hour.

How low does must the world go before all its inhabitants understand and live by the message of Jesus.

(Romans 8:28) All things work together for good to those who love God.

(Job 42: 12-13) God can do everything; no thought can be hidden.

(1 Peter 5: 7) Cast off you care to Him, for He cares for you.

(2 Corinthians 5: 7) We walk by faith, not by sight.
