Listening to Jesus, Day 13 – Choose Loveliness

August 25, 2015

Our lecturer and master-gardener at Roger’s Gardens said she preferred succulents and California natives even to the usual garden flowers. She sees in their subtle arrangements of sizes. petals, and colors all the beauty of a bouquet of flowers. She showed us with arrangements and words how beautiful they are, and I saw the muted glory of the plants I had hitherto derided. These brave plants exist with little watering, and in this time of drought in California they become more precious. I thank God for people who find beauty in the practical and prosaic, and I look with renewed vision at the loveliness of our natives and succulents.

(Psalm 86: 15) Blessed is the people that know a joyful sound — (or a thing of beauty.) They shall walk in the light.

(Romans 8: 38-29) Nothing can separate us from the love of God — (not even a drought.)
