Listening to Jesus, Day 12 – The Attitude

August 23, 2015

Attitude can make a mockery of words. A person can say one thing, but by his attitude suggest another. Jesus reminds us of the importance of attitudes in his Sermon on the Mount. (Matthew 5: 1-11) God blesses the poor, the humble, seekers of justice, the merciful, the pure of heart, the peacemakers and those who are persecuted for doing right. We know a person can say something, but by his attitude suggest something else. Attitude can belie words. We must mean what we say, and say only what we mean; anything else is confusing and untruthful.

A thankful attitude opens windows of heaven, and spiritual blessings will fall on us. Thankfulness is the language of love. Know that God is our refuge, our strength, and our help in trouble. Any other attitude makes us unworthy of being the children of God.

(Habakkkuk 3: 17-18) Even when the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines, yet I will rejoice in the Lord.

(Psalm 39: 12) For I am your guest, a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me.
