Following Jesus, Day 20 – “Bells, Bells, Bells”

June 19, 2015

Hear the church with the bells, Golden Bells!

What a world of merriment their melody foretells!

How they swell, how they dwell,

What a gush of euphony voluminously wells

In the rhyming and the chiming of the bells!  (With apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)

I can never forget the disturbingly beautiful poem, a choir of bells made to ring in words. Jesu, Jesus, lucky the church that rings out his joy with bells. They are the promise of God’s presence with us, the life and heart of the savior. They sing, “God is with you. God is with you.” And always, God is with me.

(Jeremiah 29:12-13) Call upon me and I will listen to you.

(John 10: 14, 27-28) Jesus is the good shepherd and knows his sheep. His sheep know him (and hear his voice), and he gives them eternal life and no man can harm them.
